The first two articles are news stories I covered for SUNY Oswego’s school newspaper The Oswegonian. The first story covers an event that took place on campus. The second asks students their position on free speech, an issue relevant to the campus after a recent off-campus speaker came to the school to preach and upset many students.

The third and fourth articles are letters to the editor, one written to The Oswegonian regarding recent controversy surrounding the whistleblower mentioned in impeachment inquiries. The other is to the local paper, The Palladium Times, announcing candidates running for office in the area.

The fifth link contains a number of letters I wrote regarding information on the most recent news at the time in the world of figure skating. For this assignment I was tasked with covering recurring events and giving a new side to something that could just be plain news. Figure skating is something I am passionate about so I wanted to show the world why it can be so interesting.

The sixth link was my final practicum assignment and is a long form story covering how people maintain relationships after they leave college, whether that be friendships, relationships with a partner, or other relationships.

The last three Facebook posts and video demonstrate some of the graphics and other work I have done on social media while working for the Oswego City Democratic Committee. The video displays the candidates running for city council in the city of Oswego. The first graphic explains what candidates are running in which areas around Oswego county by placing their names and photographs around a map of the county. The last graphic is a “meet the candidates” post made for candidate Maureen Wills to help bring awareness to her campaign for city council.

To Whom It May Concern,

Thank you for the opportunity to apply for a role in social media marketing. After reviewing the job description it is clear that you are looking for a candidate that is familiar with the responsibilities associated with this role and who can perform them with confidence. Given these requirements, I believe that I have the skills necessary to perform the job well and exceed expectations.

I am a hard-working college student with a GPA of 3.62. I am currently attending The State University of New York College at Oswego with a double major in Journalism and Political Science as well as a minor in Business Administration. During my academic career, I have worked over the summer as a camp counselor for Girl Scouts of Connecticut and as a soccer specialist for Winding Trial Day Camp. In these roles, I acquired valuable skills such as multitasking and leadership. I have also had the opportunity to work for Vote Oswego, a non-partisan political campaign on the SUNY Oswego campus. Through this experience I gained effective leadership, time management and campaigning skills. I have also had the opportunity to work in the media field as an intern media specialist for U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and the Oswego City Democratic Committee. In these roles I have built my journalistic, marketing, and communications skills. In my academic, professional, and personal life I am known as kind, hard-working, and easy to talk to. Whether working on academic, extracurricular, or professional projects I apply proven multitasking, communication, and leadership skills, which I hope to apply to a job at your company.

After reviewing my resume, I hope you will agree that I am the type of candidate that you are looking for. I look forward to speaking with you more about how my skills will benefit your organization. Please contact me at (860)977-7422 or via email at esolomon@oswego.edu.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Ericka  Solomon
